It was played by two teams of one to eight players who competed on either side of a central line
that was clearly marked by stone discs (set in the playing alley) or by sculptures or rings set in the vertical
sides of the bordering platforms.

A visitor is not allowed to climb the stairs of the Castillo anymore in
order to better preserve the monument.
Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since
1988.
The Chichen Itza was voted as one of the world's new seven world
wonders.
